Taking Diamond on Holiday

Generally we consider it a bad move to take anything too valuable or expensive with us on holiday and so taking diamond jewelery is of course understandably a concern. However it is something that sometimes has to be done, and when it comes to diamond engagement rings or diamond wedding bands the intention is that you will wear these items at all times – you won't want to be taking them off every time you go to visit another country where you will likely want to show off your commitment. Likewise you may even have bought your diamond jewelry from a local diamond brokers in that country, in which case carrying it with you is certainly safer than leaving it in the hotel.

Luckily there are ways to ensure that your diamond wedding bands or engagement rings are kept safe and secure and remain on your fingers. Here we will look at how you can go about keeping your diamonds safe on holiday and the best way to look after them.

First of all you need to make sure that your diamond wedding bands fit. This is a common problem with people who lose a lot of weight, or who had the rings given to them and didn't get their fingers measures and it means that any wild gesture or gesticulation can be enough to cause the ring to slip and and get launched across a room or street. You need to avoid this happening then by making sure the ring fits and getting it re-sized whenever it starts to become loose. This way it will grip onto your finger much more tightly. Don't have time to get the ring re-sized? Then put a second ring over the finger in front of the loose one so that it holds your second ring in place and keeps it more securely in place (just make sure that that second ring is tighter). This is also a great way to avoid your ring being stolen and it will mean that any deft thieves will pass you up for easier targets.

The next thing to make sure of is that you take your ring off every time you are about to do something dangerous or athletic. If you are going rock climbing for instance, or even just swimming in the sea, these are scenarios where you can easily lose your ring or even where the ring could get caught and thus injure you. Take your ring off here and put it in a zip up compartment in a bag, or on a chain around your neck under some clothes.

Finally be careful when heading to rougher areas where someone may see your diamond wedding bands and try and get you to hand them over. Make sure you don't flash your jewelry around more than necessary, and that you keep your hands in your pockets when worried. If you decide to leave the ring at the hotel in such scenarios, then make sure you have a safety deposit box where the ring can be stored securely.
